Dermal needling crops up under several different names, including Collagen Induction, Micro Needling, and Dermal Needling. It is the most advanced, non-invasive method of skin remodelling available.

As we age, the collagen and elastin in our skin begins to break down, and we produce less of it. This causes a gradual thinning of the skin, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, sagging and loss of volume. Dermal needling is an incredibly effective way to boost our collagen production for increased elasticity, fullness, and tightness of our skin. The treatment works to counteract this ageing process, by creating thousands of tiny punctures in the skins surface with micro needles. This process triggers the skin's natural wound healing response, resulting in dramatically increased collagen and elastin production, thickening and strengthening the skin.

We use the Skin Pen for our dermal needling treatments - a pen-like device with single-use needle heads that pulse rapidly in and out of the skin. The depth to which we needle, ranges from 0.25mm to 2mm, depending on the skin being treated.

Dermal needling is a cumulative treatment - meaning it needs to be done in a course of treatments to achieve the desired result. We typically recommend 4-6 treatments depending on your skin goals.

Can anyone have this treatment?

Clients with certain medical conditions are not safe to have this treatment performed. We recommend to always begin with a complimentary consultation to ensure you are a good candidate for treatment. Darker skin types must be using medical-grade skincare for a minimum of 4 weeks prior to treatment to mitigate the risk of post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.

Do you use numbing cream, and is the treatment painful?

We do not offer numbing in-clinic. The reason for this is that numbing agents are typically vaso-constrictors, meaning they reduce blood circulation to the area being numbed. Reduced blood flow to the area hinders the healing process, and potentially increases the downtime of this treatment. Our needling devices use the best technology available, so the discomfort from this treatment is very minimal.

How long is the downtime?

Redness in the skin can be visible from 12-24 hours post-treatment, however we typically find that most, if not all of the redness will dissipate within 6 hours of treatment. For up to 2 days post treatment, the skin can feel tight and/or dry (you could liken the feeling to a mild sunburn), but the use of topical hydrating products will ease this significantly.

How often should I have this treatment?

We recommend a course of 4-6 treatments, spaced four weeks apart.

How is the procedure performed?

Your practitioner will thoroughly clean the skin to prep for the treatment. A hyaluronic acid or growth factor solution is applied to the skin, and the needling pen will glide over the skin in a methodic pattern to ensure even treatment. Once an even and thorough treatment with the Eclipse pen is completed, your practitioner will cool the skin with cold rollers, and apply finishing serums to boost your treatment.

Can Dermal Needling be performed on any skin colour?

Yes, dermal needling can be performed on any skin colour.

What should I do after the treatment?

Post-treatment we will provide you with product to apply for the next 24-48 hours while your skin is healing. We will also provide you with a post-care guideline sheet to refer to over the days following your treatment. It is important to only use products approved by your practitioner while your skin is healing, as it will be more senstive than usual, and using incorrect skincare during this time could cause a reaction, or impact your skins ability to heal properly. It is also important to avoid UV exposure for 48 hours post-treatment, and crucial that you are using a good quality physical based sunscreen for at least one week following your treatment. In the 24-48 hours following your treatment, it is important to avoid heat exposure to your skin eg. heavy excersise, hot yoga, spas/saunas.

Can I increase my results at home?

Yes - we require clients to be using medical grade skincare at home while they are having this treatment done. Using medical-grade skincare will drastically boost your results from this treatment, and increase the speed at which your skin heals post-treatment.
