WHAT IT IS

What is microneedling?

Microneedling (also called collagen induction therapy) is a minimally invasive skin treatment that uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This stimulates the body's natural healing response - boosting collagen and elastin production to repair and rejuvenate skin from within.

WHO IT HELPS

Skin Pen effectively treats
six key skin concerns.

01

ACNE SCARRING

Microneedling mechanically breaks down scar tissue and promotes new skin cell turnover, resulting in smooth, even, healthy skin.

03

UNEVEN TEXTURE & PORES

Microneedling evens out skin texture and reduces the appearance of pores by promoting new skin cell turnover, and boosting collagen and elastin production.

05

SURGICAL & INJURY SCARS

Microneedling induces tissue remodelling by promoting collagen and elastin production, and skin cell turnover, to smooth out surgical scars, and accident/injury scars.

02

FINE LINES & WRINKLES

Microneedling boosts collagen and elastin production in the skin, and soften fine lines and wrinkles for a firmer, smoother complexion.

04

SKIN LAXITY

Microneedling induces tissue remodelling within the skin, and promotes collagen and elastin production to reduce laxity, resulting in firmer skin.

06

PIGMENTATION

Microneedling can treat deep pigmentation and safely treat heat-sensitive forms of pigmentation such as melasma.

HOW IT WORKS

The science of skin renewal.

1

Controlled micro-injury

Fine needles create thousands of precise micro-channels in the skin at a controlled depth selected by your skin therapist, based on your skin and the area being treated.

2

Wound healing response

Micro injuries to the skin trigger the natural wound healing cascade to begin. Growth factors are released, and collagen & elastin producing cells are stimulated.

3

Tissue remodelling

The skin begins to produce new collagen and elastin fibres, clears away damaged tissue and creates new, healthy skin.

4

Progressive remodelling

Over 6-12 months, juvenile collagen and elastin mature, resulting in tissue contraction (skin tightening), smoothing and plumping of the skin.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

What you can expect from microneedling

Results depend on skin type, skin concern, and consistency with your prescribed homecare. These are the outcomes most clients experience when they follow the skin therapist guidance.

Reduced fine lines

Increased collagen and elastin production plumps and firms the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

Even skin tone

Redness and pigmentation reduce over time as microneedling induces skin renewal

Reduced scarring

Scar tissue is broken down, collagen and elastin production increases, scar tissue is smoothed and healed over time.

Firmer skin

Increased collagen and elastin density result in firmer skin and reduced laxity.

Progressive improvement

Your skin will progressively improve as the effects of microneedling continue for up to 12 months

Smoother skin

Pore are less visible over time, and skin texture becomes smoother and more even.

MECHANISM COMPARISON

Compare microneedling to other treatments

We believe in the right treatment for the right skin. This comparison chart is designed to help you understand the treatment options available, and which would be best suited to your skin.

Microneedling vs Ablative Lasers

  • Mechanical collagen induction

  • 24-48 hours downtime (redness)

  • Safe for all skin tones with correct protocol

  • Ideal for atrophic scarring, fine lines

  • Uses light energy to target pigment, redness, and stimulate collagen

  • No downtime

  • Safe for all skin tones (one of the only lasers on the market)

  • Ideal for rosacea, veins, redness, active acne, melasma pigmentation

MICRONEEDLING

CHEMICAL PEELS

MICRONEEDLING

CHEMICAL PEELS

  • Works deep in the dermal layer of the skin

  • Stimulates cell renewal from within

  • Better for atrophic scarring, laxity, and deeper lines

  • Works primarily on the surface of the skin

  • Induces superficial shedding of the skin

  • Better for congestion, acne, superficial pigmentation, surface texture

  • Uses mechanical micro-injuries - no heat

  • 24-48 hours downtime (redness)

  • Safe for all skin tones with correct protocols

  • Progressive results, 4+ sessions required

  • Indicated for mild-moderate scarring, fine lines, texture

  • Uses thermal energy, generates heat in the skin

  • 5-14 days downtime (redness, crusting, peeling)

  • High risk for darker skin tones

  • Faster results, typically 1-3 sessions

  • Indicated for severe scarring, deep wrinkles

"

I started my skincare journey with Skin Ritual in February this year after doing thorough research and reading reviews from various clinics. What truly stood out to me was Skin Ritual’s personalised approach — they create tailored skincare plans for each individual, which is so important since everyone’s skin is unique. I feel very lucky to have met Kimberley and she’s an absolute star! Her expertise and care have made a real difference in my skin and confidence.
