Aerolase for
Melasma

$550 per session | 10% off bundles of 4+

Melasma is one of the most difficult pigmentation conditions to treat. Aerolase Neo Elite laser addresses it at the source - without the heat that causes rebound hyperpigmentation in conventional laser treatments. Safe for all skin tones, including those where melasma is most common.

Most laser treatments for melasma come with a significant risk - the heat they generate can trigger the very condition they're trying to treat. Melasma is driven by inflammation, heat, and hormonal activity, and conventional lasers that generate excessive thermal energy in the skin can cause rebound hyperpigmentation - a worsening of the condition after treatment.

Aerolase is designed around this problem. Its 650-microsecond pulse duration is fast enough to target pigment and vascular activity without generating the heat buildup that provokes rebound. It is one of the only laser treatments widely considered safe and effective for melasma - and it is the treatment we recommend at Skin Ritual for clients dealing with this condition.

WHAT IT IS

What is Aerolase laser treatment for melasma?

Aerolase laser treatment for melasma uses a 1064nm Nd:YAG laser with an ultra-fast 650-microsecond pulse duration to treat melasma without the heat buildup that causes rebound hyperpigmentation in conventional laser systems.

The laser targets both the pigment clusters and the underlying vascular activity that feeds melasma - breaking down discolouration and calming the inflammatory and hormonal triggers that sustain it. Aerolase is safe for all skin tones and requires no downtime. Treatment is available at Skin Ritual in Newmarket, Auckland, at $550 per session.

WHY MELASMA IS DIFFICULT TO TREAT

The nuance of treating melasma pigmentation

Melasma is not the same as sun-induced pigmentation - it is a complex pigmentation condition driven by a combination of hormonal activity, inflammation, and UV exposure. The melanocytes (pigment producing cells) responsible for melasma are chronically overactive, and they are easily triggered by heat, light, hormonal changes, and inflammation.

This is why many treatments that work well for other types of pigmentation - IPL, certain lasers, aggressive peels - can actually make melasma worse. The heat and inflammation generated during these treatments can stimulate the very cells that are already overproducing pigment.

Aerolase avoids this through its 650-microsecond pulse duration - fast enough to target pigment and the blood vessels that feed it, without generating the thermal activity that triggers rebound. For clients who have had previous treatments that worsened their melasma, this is a critical distinction.

WHO IT HELPS

Aerolase for melasma is ideal for...

01

HORMONAL MELASMA

Melasma triggered or worsened by pregnancy, oral contraceptives, or hormonal changes - the most common presentation.

03

MEDIUM TO DARK SKIN TONES

Melasma disproportionately affects clients with medium to dark skin tones, and Aerolase is one of the only laser treatments safe and effective for this demographic.

02

ONGOING MELASMA MANAGEMENT

Melasma is a chronic condition. Aerolase is a safe option for ongoing maintenance treatment without the cumulative risk of conventional lasers.

04

REBOUND PIGMENT AFTER LASER TREATMENT

Clients who have experienced worsening of melasma following conventional laser or IPL treatment - Aerolase's unique tech makes it safe where other lasers have failed.

HOW IT WORKS

The science of Aerolase for melasma.

1

Laser delivery

The Aerolase Neo Elite delivers 1064nm laser energy at a 650-microsecond pulse duration. The wavelength penetrates beyond the melanin-rich upper layers of the skin - targeting pigment clusters in the dermis without disturbing the pigment cells at the surface that would trigger rebound.

2

Pigment and vascular targeting

Laser energy breaks down pigment clusters so they can be cleared by the body naturally. Simultaneously, it targets the vascular activity that feeds and sustains melasma - reducing the blood supply to overactive melanocytes and calming one of the primary drivers of the condition.

3

Progressive fading

Pigment clears progressively over the weeks following each session. Results are gradual - melasma responds more slowly than other pigmentation conditions and requires patience and consistency. A course of 6 sessions is typically recommended, with ongoing maintenance thereafter.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

What you can expect from Aerolase for melasma.

Results depend on skin type, and consistency with your prescribed homecare. These are the outcomes most clients experience when they follow the skin therapist guidance.

Fading pigmentation

Melasma lightens progressively over a course of sessions as treated pigment is cleared by the body.

Safe for all skin tones

Effective and safe for the medium to deep skin tones where melasma is most prevalent.

Reduced vascular activity

Targeting the blood vessels that feed melasma reduces one of the primary drivers of the condition.

More even skin tone

Patchy discolouration becomes more uniform and less visible with each session, and underlying redness reduces.

No rebound

Unlike conventional lasers, Aerolase's low-heat approach does not trigger rebound hyperpigmentation.

No downtime

Return to your normal routine immediately after each session, no undesirable downtime with treatment.
